Although not to far from San Diego State University, University Heights Neighborhood doesn’t actually get its name from this institution. University Heights was actually named for a College that never came to fruition. Although the subdivision which was drawn in 1888 had been intended for a college, it instead became a Neighborhood. Today’s University Heights bares other markers of its rich past. Some are hard not to notice such as the prominence of ostrich images. This is because the Northwest corner of the neighborhood was once a farm for the large flightless birds.
